Is there a trap or food catch that needs to be cleaned out? Is there anything behind or under that could be rotten....

Try running orange juice through. If that does not neutralize the odor there may be particles of food in the bottom.

There is a commercial product you can buy called Affresh. You run it through the dishwasher and it cleans it.

Vinegar is what I always use and if it failed me I would try lemon juice

What Molly said.... I do this on a regular basis, and then I run it with vinegar. But Vinegar will not do it alone, if you have food particles. Amazing how much you find in the filter and other places. Didn't notice in the video, but I do pay attention to the inside seal area of the door. The build up there occurs as we drag our dirty dishes over to the rack and because it gets sealed when we close the door, it can get pretty messy and yucky.

Hi Marlene, I thought of one other possibility. There is usually a bottom panel on the front of a dishwasher that can be removed. Maybe you should check under there just in case somebody accidentally kicked a piece of fruit, or some other food that has gone bad. I know our cat shoots bread tabs under there all the time, he dreams of playing pro hockey someday! Hope you find your mystery smell soon!

When I took our trap apart to clean it I was STUNNED by the amount and just plain yuckiness of food particles and THE GREASE. Seriously horrible. I followed a video on YouTube, there are a bunch, your dishes will be so much cleaner, too.
