Hi Karen, nail polish remover is an acetone which is regularly used as a paint thinner and also a paint remover. I'm assuming it took the finish off and maybe the table looks lighter where it was spilled? You will need to sand it down to even out the finish, repaint (or restain) and the reapply a sealant.
I think the nail polish remover probably removed the finish from the wood table. Thus you might need to restain, refinish that part rather than removing anything.

The damage is probably to the finish. Clean it up and see if the finish needs to be repaired.
