If you have no ecological concerns, nothing works better than TSP. Available at most hardware stores. -

Warm a cup of vinegar for 1 minute in the microwave, add it to 1 cup hot water in a squirt bottle, and put in a healthy squirt of Dawn dish soap. Squirt on cabinets and wipe clean. -

I have always used Murphy's oil soap diluted and soft rag. If you want them to shine, after cleaning and allowing to dry, apply Lemon oil evenly with soft dry rag. -

On my oak cabinets, I always used Murphy's Oil soap but recently had,them painted white and the contractor advised to just use soap and water.
