Cleaning burnt-on grease from outsid of an aluminum pot

I have a 50-year old pot that is great for making soups or frying chicken. The stainless steel interior looks brand new but the aluminum outside has layers of burnt on grease. Chore Boys and abrasive cleansers are powerless against it. Is there a simple way to clean it?
