How do I clean a fieldstone fireplace with out using harsh chemicals?

We have a field stone fireplace that we don't use it all that often but I've noticed that it's getting a bit grungy. I run the vacuum hose over it to get the dust . Is there anything I can use to clean it . I have allergies so the stuff the Hubs bought I cannot use as I reacted badly to it. Thank you
