Porcelain sink, especially the old ones which have received a lot of use, tend to stain from various sources and as far as I know there is no way to keep it from stains. Best to remove rust stains is ZUD, otherwise cleanse with one of the typical powdered cleansers or Soft Scrub.

I have used Comet & soft scrub to keep mine clean. Here is an article that might be helpful - http://homeguides.sfgate.com/keep-kitchen-sink-bright-white-26173.html - good luck

    Home Degreaser/Cleaner
    -Original Blue Dawn Dish
    Detergent
    - Baking Soda
    - Peroxide
Sprinkle baking soda, few drops blue Dawn and add peroxide. (It will foam up) Spread in circular motion and let sit 10minutes if stained. Wipe clean with soft cloth then rinse well.
This is great for smooth top stoves and ovens (use more baking soda and Dawn and let sit 20minutes) Repeat if necessary.
You can adjust the ratio depending on what you are cleaning and how greasy or stained. Works well for laundry (bleach safe items) stains and tile etc.
