How to get dog urine smell out of dirt

The people that lived in our home before us had a bunch of dogs . I have a couple dogs of my own . I have been fixing up my back yard and as I dig I can smell years of dogs going potty back there . any suggestions as to how to get rid of this oder. It is really bad when the ground gets wet , pee yoo, please forgive the pun.

Try sprinkling the area with lots of red pepper flakes.
Buy a bag of baking soda and sprinkle over the dirt.. Then spritz after a few hours with lemon juice or lime juice.. Repeat for a few weeks
If dirt, vinegar first, it needs to be sprayed heavily and repeatedly over several days. Then sprinkle baking soda. Have a bucket at the back door to wash your dog's paws off before coming in.
Think about growing clover instead of having bare dirt. Rarely if ever needs mowing, chokes out weeds, drought tolerant, fun to roll around in. You just need to keep the dogs off until it is established, so block off and install in sections.
I know it's best to always play it smart; however the strong
smell should deter any dog from wanting to lick the ground
