Pitcher This.....Ironstone China Pitcher. Table Centerpiece

On Tuesday I donated a few closet and garage items to Goodwill. While there (they unload your car for you at the drive up) I decided to go inside just to take a look see. I spotted this white pitcher. When I picked it up I could not believe it was Ironstone China for 99cents. I thought, ok, can't go wrong with this. Cleaned her up and looked at our breakfast nook. Yup, the table needed a new centerpiece. The small Fourth of July centerpiece was time to go. So, here she is debuting sunflowers.

I added a smaller pitcher with the birdie, a creamer pitcher, small bowl with wood fruit, a crystal candlestick and fan fold napkins on the side. Nestle it all in a rattan tray. A simple table centerpiece but makes a nice statement.

Can you believe...99cents?

I'm really not sure what they are selling for, but I know Ironstone, and it is not sold for 99cents.

Love the details.

This birdie pitcher is not Ironstone. Just a cute pitcher. :-)

I added a crystal candlestick to bring just a little sparkle. I love the combination of clear crystal, rattan and bright white.

This fabric I purchased from Jo-Ann Fabrics a while back and made large 18" square napkins.

Excellent score! My husband's sister-in-law & I divided his mother's ironstone collection that included multiple Meakin pitchers, casseroles, platters, etc. While I haven't checked prices lately, I wouldn't be surprised to see a pitcher like yours tagged $50 or more at an antique shop.

  @P.j. C Thank you. I looked up Ironstone on Martha Steward's website and the prices she was stating made me feel very lucky. This hunt just might become my new hobby. :-). A nice collection you must have. Do you display yours? I think I need to find a nice spot for my new (pending) collection. Thanks again.

  @Linda G Yes, my ironstone pieces are displayed in an antique oak china cabinet that my mother-in-law bought at an auction, along with other vintage dinnerware---bluebird ironstone (the popular 'fluffy bluebird' decal with sprigs of pink roses) & Royal Cauldon china (various patterns, all with pink roses). My husband's sister-in-law chose a couple of pitchers, & I got a teapot & cream & sugar set, plus a set of 8 place settings of white ironstone made by Johnson. The other pieces include a large pitcher & bowl set, platters, & covered casseroles. I paid $3 & $5 for large ironstone bowls at shops, & found a gravy boat at a yard sale for $1. One of the ironstone bowls & several pieces of bluebird dinnerware had darkened, but I was able to whiten them with my 'secret recipe'. They look great now! :-D

  @P.j. C Now that sounds lovely! Great deals! Please consider sharing pictures, it really sounds beautiful. Vintage china collecting is all new to me, I think it's beautiful, that's why I have all the questions. Thanks so much in sharing your treasures. :-)

  @Linda G The first photo is the oak china cabinet my mother-in-law stripped of 3 layers of paint about 50 years ago--by coating it with lye, then rinsing with a garden hose. (Proof that painting an antique doesn't destroy its value!) I plan to line the back panel with a blue & white mini gingham flour sack that was inherited from my grandmother. Vintage embroidered napkins alternate with Battenberg napkins over each shelf's edge. Be forewarned---collecting vintage dinnerware can be addicting! I also have a few more bluebird pieces & a small collection of Blue Fluted & Blue Lace by Royal Copenhagen displayed in other rooms. :-D
