I just can't purchase store-bought Halloween costumes for my kids. Just can't do it. So much to the chagrin of my 8 year old who'd rather buy something from the store, this crafty mom just has to pull out her craft supplies and the sewing machine! When this same child asked to be a witch this Halloween, a super 'wicked' black cape was created...from a large men's t-shirt.
Lay the t-shirt out flat and cut off the arms on both sides. Keep the scissors in your hand and make a cut down the center front. From bottom to neckline. Cut both shoulder seams. At this point, you should have a funky-lookin' rectangle.
With the t-shirt totally spread out, you are going to want to even up this misshapen rectangle. Cut the side seams of the t-shirt so you wind up with two small rectangles. Then, make one large rectangle from the back of the t-shirt. You will want to pin the smaller rectangular sections to both sides of the large rectangle. Sew these sides together.
Come visit my site to see how I finished up this wicked witches cape, added some ruffle details and sewed on a black satin ribbon tie.
