February...the month of love! Have you already started decorating for Valentine's Day? Do the hearts go up as soon as you take your Christmas tree down? It's nice to have handmade items to add to your decor, and this craft is easy and fun for both adults and children. Some of the items may be purchased at the dollar store which also makes this project inexpensive.
Here are the supplies needed for this project...
Air Dry  or Oven Bake Clay
2”-2 ½” Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter
Rubber Stamps
12” Skewers Cut In Half
2” Clay Pots
Floral Foam
Acrylic Paint
Use a rolling pin or bottle to roll out the clay to approximately 1/4 inch thickness. Press a rubber stamp into the clay to add a design. Press the stamp just enough to leave an indention and not too deep. If the clay is too thin from the indention it will be weak and could break.
Use a cookie cutter to cut a heart out of the clay. Offset the design rather than centering it to add more interest.
Insert the skewers that have been cut in half into the bottom of each heart. Allow to dry following the directions for the type of clay used.
Paint the clay pots and the hearts (when dry) with a color of your choice.
Add glaze to both the flower pots and the hearts. For the flower pots, use a damp rag to wipe glaze onto the pots. For the hearts, paint the glaze on to make sure you get it down into all the crevices, then use a damp rag to wipe away the excess glaze.
Place floral foam into each flower pot, then insert the skewer into the foam.
Add moss the each flower pot to hide the foam. These blooming hearts are pretty enough to leave out all year long as a reminder that love grows here!
