Patriotic Felt Scrap Wreath to Celebrate July Fourth

What to do with ALL of those felt scraps that I have collected hoarded but just can’t throw away? My Patriotic Felt Scrap Wreath to Celebrate July Fourth is a quick and easy craft to make in just about 30 minutes. Use up those bits and pieces of felt or fabric and celebrate the Fourth of July in a colorful and thrifty way.
Celebrate July Fourth with a Patriotic Felt Scrap Wreath
Here’s what you need to make a Red, White, and Blue Wreath:
- Kunin Classic Felt Craft Sheet Scraps – Red, Red with White Polka Dots, White, White Corduroy, Neon Blue, Ocean Blue
- Wooden Embroidery Hoop – 10″
- Hemptique Natural Jute Twine to use as a hanger
- Scissors – I love my Fiskars!
- Ruler
Here’s how to create a Colorful Wreath from Scraps:
To begin the Patriotic Felt Scrap Wreath, gather all supplies. Remove the labels from the embroidery hoop and the felt craft cuts. Organize all the colors of the felt scraps. Kunin Classic Felt Craft Cuts are 9″ by 12″ and are available in Michael’s, Joann, and Hobby Lobby. Use the colors of red, white, and blue felt that you like best. This wreath would be fun to do in a color-blocked or flag order.
For this project, use the 9″ width of the Kunin Felt Craft Cuts. Make a stack of bits and pieces that are big enough. Randomly cut the scraps of felt into strips, some skinny and some fat, with scissors. For this 10″ embroidery hoop wreath, you will need approximately 100 strips of felt.
Start tying the strips of felt around the embroidery hoop in double knots. Use the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock marks as a starting point.
Continue working around the entire hoop, pushing the felt strips together to get as many tied on as possible. The more felt scrap strips tied onto the embroidery hoop the fluffier the wreath will be.
To finish the Patriotic Felt Scrap Wreath, measure and cut a twelve-inch length of Hemptique Natural Jute Twine. Tie the twine hanger onto the screw at the top of the embroidery hoop. Accent with a bow, if you like.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
I am a novice. I like to make a Fourth of July wreath, but the little details missing are the measure for skinny and fatty strips? 😊
Ok.....9 X 12 in. felt sheets, How wide did you cut the strips? IF approx. 1 in. wide, starting with the 9 inch side of the sheet, you end up with 12 pieces: 1 inch wide and 9 inch long strips? Is this correct?
Craft supplies in my area and esp. felt sheets in just one color etc are a bit expensive unless you can find them on sale which is not often.... I am sure I can figure it out, but dont want to mess up! Thanks!
