Paper House Ornaments - Holiday DIY Project

These paper house ornaments were fun (and slightly challenging) to make! While this wasn't the easiest Christmas craft, it certainly turned out to be one of the prettiest. Isn't that always the way?
Drawing out the template was kind of like doing a puzzle in the newspaper....but don't worry, there are tons of free paper house printable templates around the web if you're not into the mind-bending process of sketching out 3D things on 2D paper (see the original paper house ornament tutorial for details on where to download pre-made templates).
BEFORE: Gather your supplies. We used white cardstock, a pencil, a ruler, tacky glue, a cutting board, and a snap-off utility craft knife. There's a full list of supplies at the bottom of this article.
STEP 1: Draw out the template. Ours was basically a bunch of 2" boxes. If this step sounds like no fun, just download a pre-made paper house template (see the full post on my blog for details).
STEP 2: Think about where you'll glue the house together and add "tabs" where two pieces of paper can be folded over each other and glued together. I also found it helpful to put an F on the front wall and a B on the back wall.
STEP 3: Cut out the template with the craft knife. Here's what mine looked like.
STEP 4: Then I cut out some windows and doors. The eraser end of the pencil was useful for popping out the little bits of paper.
STEP 5: Time to start folding! This is when the paper house ornament starts to take shape.
STEP 6: Glue the house together with tacky glue. I used clothespins to clamp the tabs shut while it dried.
AFTER: Here is what the finished paper house ornament looks like on our Christmas tree!
