Vintage Picture Upcycled Jam Jar Lid Ornaments

I love vintage illustrations of flowers and animals, that is why I have a blog dedicated to them. I'm always looking for new ways to display the images, not just on my walls but with crafts and DIYs.
This time I've upcycled some jam jar lids to display some vintage bird illustrations. This is a very simple and affordable craft for all.
I just used regular sized jam jar lids, but you can use lids of any size you want. The bigger the lid, the bigger the ornament.
I spray painted the lids red. Spray the lids inside and out in a well-ventilated area.
When the paint has dried using a sharp awl, punch two holes in the sides opposite each other.
Make a tassel for the ornament using embroidery thread. (more details on the blog).
Thread the tassel onto the jar lid through the hole. Add some wooden beads for more decoration. Add a hanging thread through the other hole in the lid.
Print off the image you want to use for your ornament. Make sure it fits the inside of the lid. There are a load of free vintage images on my site you can use for free, (link with bio at the end).
Cockatoos are my favourite bird so I used a cockatoo image. I stuck this to the inside of the lid. I then added some clear lacquer to give the ornament a glossy 3D effect.
I love how the ornaments turned out. I'm waiting to finish some more jam and sauce jars so I have more lids to turn into ornaments.
A fun alternative would be to use photos for the ornaments.

You can probably use Ball jar lids in bulk and not have to wait for everybody to eat all that jam/jelly. Also, the removable insert is your perfect template. Really like this idea as a project to do with the kids.

Thank you, yes you can use those lids too. I save up my lids throughout the year so I end up with a stash to use.

You can also use recycled greeting cards for the pictures.
