Put a slice of bread in the bag to keep it from getting hard.If it is hard already, put it in the microwave over for about 15 seconds at a time until it is soft.

try breaking it up with a hammer and put the pieces in a grinder/food processor then in a glass container with crackers inside and tight fitting lid

Just add a whole apple. Open the bag of sugar, and put it in a plastic bag. Remove only the top of sack for ease of handling. Cut the apple in 2 or 3 pieces and close the bag tightly. Leave it this way for roughly 5 days. Open the bag. Sugar should have softened.

I would put it in a plastic bag and use meat tenderizer mallet to break up. If it does not break up, toss it. :)

I use bread, but apple would be good, too.

I used Dee's suggestion and it worked beautifully - no mess and under 1 hour it was in its new container. Thanks again.
