A Leaf Garland Made From A Leather Jacket

Do you ever look at something and the idea pops in your head? That is what happened with this project. I have an old leather jacket that my friend didn’t need anymore. It occurred to me it could be remade into a leather leaf garland.
Years ago I had bought a “fall” stencil. It came with Halloween, Thanksgiving stencils and one with seven different leaves of different sizes. It is perfect for the project I had in mind.
I used a piece of chalk and traced around the leaf stencil. Make sure you draw a thick tab at the top of the leaf. For my garland I made two leaves in each size for a total of fourteen leaves. You can adjust it based on the size you want the garland to be. Use your good sewing scissors and cut out the leaf. I did one at a time so the chalk wouldn’t smudge.
Have a piece of rope ready in the length you want the garland to be. Use a hole punch to punch two holes.
The leather tab will wrap around the rope. Secure the leaf around the rope with brass fasteners.
This project is so easy and has such impact. It looks good on the mantel or a shelf. Or anywhere that you want a cute fall look. Do you think you will give it a try?
Enjoyed the project?
