Supplies to Make Indoor Snowballs for Decor

• Round Christmas ornaments
• White spray paint
• Spray adhesive, or mod podge
• Epsom salt
• Silver glitter
• Bowl and spoon

How to Make Fake Snowballs for Decor

Step 1: Prep your Christmas ornament to transform it into a faux snowball

Remove the holder from the Christmas ornament and wipe the ornament clean of any dirt or debris.

Step 2: Spray paint your ornament

Unless you are starting with already white ornaments, you will want to spray paint them white.

I used clear round ornaments that I had from a year ago. But you can easily use any colored ornament that you no longer want.

In a well-ventilated room, or outside, lay down newspaper or a drop cloth to protect your surface from the spray paint.

Place the ornaments with the tops of them facing down, onto your newspaper.

Apply 2 to 3 coats of white spray paint.

*Note: these don’t need to be perfectly white as you will be covering them in the next step.

Step 3: Transform your white Christmas ornaments into DIY snowballs that won’t melt

Take your Epsom salt and add about one cup to a bowl. (Epsom salt is really cool in that it looks so much like snow.)

Now add about one teaspoon of silver glitter to the bowl. Mix the Epsom salt and glitter together.

You don’t want to add too much glitter, or your faux snowballs will look more like silver glitter balls. The silver glitter adds sparkle to your diy snowball and will make it look like the sun was bouncing off it.

Lay down newspaper to protect your work surface from the spray adhesive and fake snow mixture.

Divide your work area in half. One side will be for spraying the adhesive and the other side for applying the fake snow.

First, spray your ornament with the spray adhesive over one side of your work area. If you don’t have spray adhesive, you can brush on Mod Podge instead.

Next, move to the other side of your work surface where you have the bowl of fake snow. You can either roll the adhesive-covered ornament around in the mixture, or you can hold the ornament above the bowl and spoon the Epsom salt/glitter snow onto the faux snowball.

Whichever process you prefer.

*Tip: I “held” the ornament by putting my finger into the ornament opening.

Then gently tap off any excess fake snow back into the bowl, so it can be reused to create the next diy snowball.

Continue this process until your ornament is covered completely with the fake snow.

Voila! Your diy fake snowball is finished.
