Huge Watermelon/wood Art

by Kathy
(IC: homeowner)
Easy
When a large oak tree was cut down, a "slice" had to be cut in order to get the tree to fall in the direction it needed to fall. I saw a watermelon slice, so I sanded and painted it. Now it rests on my front porch for the summer.
this is the "slice" in its raw wood state. I peeled the bark off and I let it dry and "cure" for about a month in the dry heat of our out building. I then sanded it as smooth as possible, removed all the dust, then painted the bottom and rind green, the little line above the rind white, and the watermelon red...added black seeds with a "comma" in the center. Hope you all enjoy this as much as I did doing it.
this is a smaller watermelon that I did years ago, and I sealed it with poly' for the shine.
