Spring Thrift Store Decor – How to Age Terracotta Pots

Today I am so excited to be doing the monthly thrift store challenge. We took a few months off, but are back today with our latest thrifted treasures!
As usual, I waited until the very last moment to head to the thrift store to try to find a treasure to show y’all. When I got there, the shelves were bare! I searched the outdoor section and found a big selection of brand new terracotta pots! I went to grab a cart to fill with these beauties, but when I returned, there were only a few left. I was a little disappointed, but happily grabbed the few that were left on the shelf.
In the past, I have painted and slightly distressed clay pots, but today I wanted a little different look. I started by brushing a thick coat of joint compound onto each pot.
After the pots were mostly dry, I started by adding a little paint.
Then layered a few other colors on (blue, black, gray, and green)
I then put it under a stream of warm water, for just a second, and wiped the remaining color around with a wet paper towel, mixing the paint into the damp joint compound. I kept adding color, joint compound, and wiping away until I got the aged look that I wanted.
A quick coat of clear spray paint and these little cuties were done!
I love the aged look that the joint compound and paint was able to create!

Oh I think I like this better than clay kitty litter Ive been using to age them, lol!
