How to Make a Greenery Swag for Your Front Door

Why not try something different for your front door than the usual wreath this holiday season? Make a swag from greenery you cut from your garden. decorations
I'll show you how to make this swag in three or four easy steps.
Gather together four or five different greens - long needled, short needled, soft & draping and short & sturdy. Lay a foundation of two or three branches of a sturdy branch such as the blue spruce I used here.
Keep layering the greens, alternating types and making them shorter as you fill it in. Tie it all together with some garden twine wrapped around the stems. Tie is firmly so that nothing will fall out. Trim the top edges with garden shears.
Add some accent pieces like dried hydrangeas, ornaments, etc. Tuck them into the cluster of stems at the top. Use odd numbers of items to create a more natural look.
Add a bright bow to pull it all together. Secure it by wrapping it around the top of the swag with florists wire.

This is beautiful! I love Christmas swags. The red ornaments are my favorite touch on it.

Yes! I have some greens, and think a swag will be a nice change & also good contrast with the wreaths I’m doing on two front windows. If possible will post a photo, thank you for inspiring me & giving a boost of confidence! Stephanie
