Natural Texture Handmade Trees
In this post I show you how to make some cute little trees for your Holiday decor! Using raffia, jute and yarn I show you three different looks.
Step 1: Gather your materials. For this project, I used cardboard cones, foam cones, natural jute twine, raffia, and yarn. I also purchased some cute little embellishments.
You will also need a hot glue gun and some masking tape.
Step 2: Prepare your materials. You can either braid or twist the raffia and twine. I braided the raffia, and braided the twine on one, and twisted it on one. For the yarn, I crocheted a chain and went around the cone twice.
When braiding, cut your strands no longer than about 42 inches or so. Otherwise, the strands are hard to manage and will get tangled as you braid.
Step 3: Begin carefully gluing the raffia, twine or yarn around the cone. If you need to start a new strand, simply overlap the next strand over the tail of the last one.
For the yarn, I did two layers to give it a fuller look. A chunkier yarn would probably give a fuller effect as well. The yarn chain was about 325" long.
Step 4: Add a tree topper and decorations. Pom-poms, little balls, snowflakes or even bells would make great embellishments. For the toppers, I used little tiny pine cones. All of this was just hot glued on.
Step 4: Place your trees in little buckets or pails. You can also add these little printable tags. They are in my free printable library on my blog.
Enjoy your handmade decorations! Below is a video showing you how I made these trees.
