Save Your Scrap Wood!

5 Materials
30 Minutes
Next time you do a wood project, don't throw out or give away your scrap pieces of wood. Repurpose them into cute and easy decor ideas, like these presents we made for our front porch.

You can use scraps of all different shapes and sizes, because presents come in all shapes and sizes. And if you are doing a large display, having wood scraps of all different heights will be perfect.

Start out by sanding down all the edges and the sides of your pieces of wood.
When your wood is smooth, give it a good coat of paint. When your paint has dried, spray it with a coat of a clear acrylic spray sealer to protect the paint and make it easier to clean off especially if you keep it outside.

If you don't feel like painting you could also stain your pieces of wood.
Next you will need some ribbon to turn your pieces of wood in to a gift with a bow. I used the silky wireless ribbon that was 1.5" wide, but you can use any kind of ribbon as long as it is wide enough. I chose this blue and purple color because it matched perfectly with my front porch decor. Wrap your ribbon around your wood and knot it in place.
Then they are ready to display!

These would make great decor for inside or outside or to give as gifts for the holidays since you can make them in any size.

Years ago I got a little wooden, piece of wood with a ribbon on each corner. Probably a 3-4 inches square, wrapped in pretty paper, as it was gifted. In the center there is a poem.....burn't around the edges. It reads: This is a very special gift
    That you can never see
The reason it's so special is
It's just for you from me.
    Whenever you are lonely
    Or even feeling blue,
You only have to hold this gift
And know I think of you.
    You never should unwrap it,
    Please leave the ribbon tied.
Hold the box close to your heart,
    It's filled with love inside.

I got if from my friend when I had to move...I've had it sooooo very long. We are still best friends.
