Bigger is Better With This Waterfall of Hydrangeas for a Fall Mantel
One of my most favourite things about fall is harvesting hydrangeas!
I just adore how abundant they are and the statement they make, no matter what you do with them. Not to mention that they'll last all year long if you dry them.
So... my mantel got hit. HARD. I had just landed a truck load of wicker baskets and my hydrangea bush begged to be cut... so here's what I did with them...

And it was all thanks to landing a few new-old baskets and my hydrangea bush ready to be harvested!
Here's how I did this:
My brother is a collector and had a massive stash of wicker baskets at his garage sale. So I loaded everyone up that I could! Aren't they gorgeous?
Next up, it was time to harvest the hydrangea bush.
One way to harvest hydrangeas is to allow them to get slightly crispy on the bush before cutting them. This ensures they will dry-wilt free!
Aren't these fall tones fabulous? They were straight blue all summer, but in fall, that all changes.

Next up, the baskets were stacked until I they were stable and I liked what I saw.
The cut hydrangea branches were inserted into the baskets, keeping in mind to 'mound' their shapes a little, meaning, one sitting higher while it's neighbour sat lower. It offers a nice shape!
They were not set in water, but you could if you cut fresh off the bush before the petals are crispy.
Hydrangeas are easy to work with because of their abundant blooms. They fill up space fast!
So if you have a rather large area to fill, consider stacking up a few baskets to get this look too!
