Easy No-Sew Placemat Pillow
I've seen a lot of placemat pillows lately but this one is different. It is no-sew! Not that a quick sew around the placemat isn't easy enough but this pillow is made with my new awesome find... fabric hot glue!
The first step was to find 2 placemats to use as the fabric for my placemats. I chose a neutral color and I loved the hitching stitch around this one. If you don't find a hitch stitch on a placemat, you could always add it yourself.
On one of the placemats I stenciled a wreath using a stencil I bought on Amazon. I used a fern green colored craft paint and a stencil brush.
The trick is to use a very small amount of paint on your brush. I usually brush the paint onto a piece of scrap wood before adding to the stencil.
Next, I added a pumpkin stencil from Old Sign Stencils. They have beautiful, well made stencils that can be used time and time again. I chose the pumpkin from their latest line of produce stencils.
When the stencil was dry I used my new favorite glue... Surebonder fabric hot glue. I glued around the inside of one of the placemats using small streams of glue at a time and pressing down the top placemat as I go.
After going around 3 sides of the pillow (placemat) with the hot glue I left one side open for the stuffing. I used Polyfil stuffing making sure to go into all the corners first.
I sealed the last side with the hot glue and I was finished!
This easy project can be done using any placemats. Decorative placemats can be used in place of the stenciling technique.
