Mismatched Button Acorn Sweater Pillow

Everyone has a bowl, box or drawer full of unused mismatched buttons. I put mine to work to make a nature inspired project for a Junk Revision Challenge I took part in this month!
I actually found this Giant Tub of buttons on my recent visit to Round Top Antiques Week! Isn't it amazing?
For my project I started by selecting all the brass and wood buttons I could find. Then I sketched a large acorn on some Heat N Bond, being careful to not sketch an area larger than I had enough buttons to cover!
Next, I cut the two acorn shapes out, cutting slightly larger than my drawing. Then I ironed them to the wrong side of brown felt and a houndstooth piece of fabric. Once ironed on I cut them out exactly.
After centering the acorn pieces on the pillow I ironed it in place, then I lightly stitched the edge of the acorn for a finished look. Be sure to insert a piece of cardboard into your pillow for the next step! It is the fun part!
Spend a minute laying out all your buttons where you want them to go. Using a hot glue gun secure each button into place. You could sew them on individually, but I don't have the patience!!
Now stand back and look at your masterpiece! You could use this idea to spell words or make other fun shapes.
Please head over to Hunt & Host for other projects like this. You can look through all the Junk Revision Links on the blog. I would love to have you join the fun!
Enjoyed the project?
