How do I decoupage with paper napkins?

I see that colorful paper napkins are advertised for use as decoupage paper. I've used thick, magazine-like paper for my projects. What's the technique with paper napkins. I noticed that they are usually 3-ply, so wasn't sure if that is a requirement.

  I have another question for you. I bought an octagonal side table. It's in pretty bad shape so, like your article says, it's going to need decoupage to help it look beautiful. I was thinking of using a mandala for the table top decoupage centerpiece. Do you think it will work with the octagonal shape? I don't want to overdo it. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  I think it will look great. If you're unsure about how you like it, don't apply the top coat and just redo it later. Good luck!
