Your house, do what you want! Don't live your life for others, embrace what you like and if others don't like it, well heck, they can just go home:) I have some really ugly stuff in my house, like an orange Tang Dynasty cat that a friend's little girl, 7, made for me in school. It's not painted all over, pieces are missing and it's well, ugly! My son made a bowling alley (1 lane with a not round ball and several bent up bowling pins) out of clay when he was 5, I'm sure you can imagine what that looks like. It's green, and horrendous! Yup, both have places in my house and have been there for over 38 years. I love them, and the kids. When someone says "They're ugly" not that the kids are ugly:), I just say "Yep" and move on:) Do what makes you happy.Helpful Reply -

Your home is your castle. You can mix anything you want , however, be aware there are many such mixes that really do well together. Use what you like and your family heritage pieces. If you like it and want it, that is what is important. Do some looking around and see what others have done to combine those two looks and you will get a better idea what works for you.Helpful Reply -

You can mix and match anything you want! "Eclectic" design means a decorating style that mixes style, trends, colors, period elements, basically anything you like that works design-wise. Almost any pleasing decor is the result of mixing elements that are different. Otherwise, how boring it would be if everything was matchy-matchy!Helpful Reply -

I tend to be what some would call eclectic. I like things because of their texture, color and how it speaks to me. I'm not afraid to mix woods and metals and somehow, because I love it, it works. I love my daughter's home with shades of gray and sage and her great taste. But, I love color and varying styles and it's what makes my home mine. Don't use decor that doesn't make you smile when you look at it. What makes your home yours, is the comfort and sense of yourself you get from your sanctuary. Don't be afraid to mix and match and move around until you see that it is a reflection of what is uniquely you.Helpful Reply -

You can do whatever you please, your house, be happy. People come to visit you and your family, not to critique your decor. If they do, well then, you decide if you still want to be friends. Now if you have a family member or friend whose decorating style you admire, ask them to help you, I guarantee they will be flattered and more than willing to put their 2 cents worth in the mix.Helpful Reply -

I agree with the other that replied, it’s your home and the only one that you have to please is yourself! If you like it then it’s perfectly fine! I personally wouldn’t mix the 2 in my house, but I’m just funny that way! Sometimes it’s a money issue too and when that’s the case you do with what you got and can afford. Any other rules get thrown out the window! Enjoy your project and make it a part of you! Not what others think!Helpful Reply -
