Between beach days, picnics in the park and summer concert series I realized we do not have a blanket that worked for all of us to sit on for the summer. At the last summer concert B brought one of my wraps as a blanket. That was a great reminder that it was time to find one. When I did not see one I loved I thought it would be a fun project to make. For me nothing says summer like watermelons! I was originally going to create a blanket with one large watermelon that turned into a DIY fail. I was so lucky to find Elizabeth from Within the Grove tutorial as inspiration. Check her out I love her style and creativity.
Iron the drop cloth. I tried to skip this step and instead ran the drop cloth on the steam cycle twice. It did not work.
Gather all your supplies. Iron the drop cloth. I tried to skip this step and instead ran the drop cloth on the steam cycle twice. It did not work.
Trace two pieces for the watermelon and the rind. Cut out the two pieces.
Place the red and green paint on two separate plates. And apply paint to the sponge.
Pro Tip – Test the two pieces on a piece of paper before applying to the drop cloth.
Place cardboard under the drop cloth and place the sponge onto the drop cloth.
Once the watermelon pieces dry add in the watermelon seeds with a paint pen.
Flip the drop cloth over and place a piece of fabric on top of the drop cloth. Iron over each painted watermelon for 10-15 seconds to seal in the paint.
Now it is time to plan a picnic.
