Decorative Chain Using Air Dry Clay | Pinterest Inspired

This is the exact clay I'm using, and I'm very pleased with how easy it is to work with it and mold it. It adheres to supports of any kind and can be used with other materials.

Cut one-inch-thick clay with a knife and roll it out in a long log section about one of a third inch thick.

Cut the one end, and then cut the clay at the point you think you can form a ring of the chain. Use that piece as a reference to be able to cut another four equal parts.

Score both ends with a knife and then tap your finger in the water, and then slip the one end.

Bend the two ends together, and use your fingers to warm up the clay, and work with it, to be able to join them and form the ring.

When you make sure that it bonded nicely, go ahead and form it in an oval shape. Then use the slip technique to smooth out all the cracks and imperfections the might occur.

Take the fourth piece and join it between the other two parts.

Take the fifth piece, and pass it through the other rings to complete the chain, and set it aside to dry for 24 hours.

When it's all dried, sand it down with fine sandpaper to smooth it out as better as you can, and then wipe it off with a paper towel.

Give it two coats of acrylic paint, and that finishes off our chain!

This is a very fun and easy project! You can style it on top of books, on a tray, on a coffee table, on a shelf...pretty much anywhere you want to bring a vivid touch to your decor.
