DIY Juju Inspired Art

by Simple Stylings
(IC: blogger)
JuJu hats are a beautiful new trend in home decor, but they can come with a hefty price tag. In just a couple of hours you can create your own JuJu inspired art masterpiece without breaking the bank. All you need is a shadowbox frame, spray paint and feathers to re-create this beloved African headdress.
Things you'll need:
Measure the inside of your shadowbox frame and cut your foam board so that it will fit snugly inside. Hot glue the foam board to the shadowbox backing.
Lay your feathers on the foam board in layers of circles starting from the outside and moving to the center. Count how many feathers you need in each circular row and separate them into groups according to their row. This 20-by-20-inch frame fits four rows of feathers.
Using the first color for the outer row, hold your feather by the tip and lightly spray on one coat of paint. Repeat this for the next row and color until all feathers are painted. Use similar shades of the same color to achieve an ombre effect.
Once the feathers are dry, lay the outer row on the foam board in a circle. Using your hot glue gun, glue the tip of each feather to the board. You can be generous with the glue since the tips will be covered up by the next row of feathers. Repeat this step until you have glued each row of feathers down and have reached the center.
Hot glue a small round object, like a faux gem stone or medallion, to the center of your feathers to cover the tips from your last row. This will give the piece a finished look. Hang and style your stunning new artwork.
