Make a cat water cup stand - perfect for spoiled and picky cats that refuse to drink from water bowls! This stand is cheap and easy to make and will help you avoid spills. My cat finally gave up on drinking from the tab after this DIY project! Visit my blog for more pictures and a video!
My cat is always trying to drink from cups instead of using her water bowl. This led to many broken glasses, spilled water, and amazed guests. To solve this issue, I decided to make a cat water cup stand.
First, I got two cheap plastic cups with a wide mouth. Solo cups will work, too, I just used these green cups because they came with a delicious ice coffee :)
In addition to the cups, I got a small cardboard box.
Then, I searched for something with a circumference equal to the cup's mouth. One of my candles was a perfect fit!
I used the candle to draw two circles on the box.
Then, I cut the circles with a utility knife.
The color of the cups did not match any of my home decor, so I decided to spray paint them. I taped the bottom half of the cups with blue tape and used small letter stickers to write the names of my two cats, Nemo and Nala, near the mouth of the cups.
I spray painted the cups with a Crylon spray, making sure that only the outside of the cups is painted. Then, I removed the blue tape and the letter stickers.
Here is my cat water cup stand - one cup for each cat. The width of the stand prevents the cats from simply knocking down the cups every time they spring near them.
Initially kitty was suspicious to my new invention. I gave it a couple of days until the paint smell went away. Since then this DIY water cup stand has been the most popular water source for the cat! She just can't get enough of it!
