Easy DIY Candle Centerpiece

I used two boards for my candle centerpiece. One reclaimed 2 x 4 board was exactly the length I needed.

In addition, we used 4 screws to attach boards together and I added a metal drawer pull, as a handle, to each end of the centerpiece.

The handles are optional and you can use wood glue and nails to attach the board together if you prefer.

The second tongue & groove board was long enough to cut into 2 pieces using a miter saw.

If your wood is new, you may want to paint or stain the wood before proceeding. Since my wood was reclaimed, it was nicely aged. I liked the look of the aged wood and wanted to leave it natural.

If you are finishing your boards, you should allow for dry time.

Attach Boards for Candle Holder

First, align boards together by making sure they are evenly spaced around the edges. The 2 x 4 is smaller than the tongue and groove boards, so I positioned it in the exact center of the upper and lower board.

Next, using a cordless drill, attach the boards together with two wood screws at either end of the boards.

Then attach the handles to each end of the candle holder, using the hardware provided with the drawer pulls.

Make Holes for Candles

First, determine how many candles you want in your centerpiece and using a ruler or tape measure draw your pattern onto the top of you centerpiece board. My pattern included 22 holes.

If you want a perfectly spaced pattern, you can draw a template on paper to use as a guide.

Using a drill bit the size of your desired candles, drill holes approx. 1 inch deep.

Be sure to mark your drill bit at the exact depth to assure that all holes are evenly drilled.

I used my Ryobi Cordless Rotary Tool to smooth the edges of each candle hole.

DIY Candle Centerpiece

Although all my wood supplies were free, adding 22 candles was a different story. I used three different color of candles and two different lengths to make the centerpiece more interesting.

I used a combination of 8 inch and 10 inch candles in white candles , grey candles, and copper candles.

They look beautiful on the table at night. I’m glad I added the handles because they allow the candle centerpiece to be moved easily off the table .
