How to Paint Glass Jars

Supplies to painting glass jars

• Chalk based or mineral based paint (I used Valspar and Waverly)
• Stencil (You can purchase these at Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby)
• Paint brush (any paint brush will do)
• Stencil Brush (important for adding the stencil)

I left the glue from the spaghetti sauce table on the jar. I liked how it added extra texture and depth to the overall painted finish (If you do not like the glue remove glue with Goo Gone)

Begin by dipping paintbrush into paint. Going sideways brush on a first coat of paint. You'll want to let this dry. When first coat of paint has dried add a second coat of paint.

After your second coat of paint your jar should look something like this! :)

Next, position stencil on jar. I held with my hand but you can use blue painters tape if needed.

Once stencil is positioned on jar take your stencil brush and lightly dip into the yellow paint. Off load any excess paint into a napkin or paper towel. This will make sure that you do not have any bleed through.

After you have off loaded excess paint begin stenciling your pattern onto the jar. Make dabbing motions up and down. DO NOT make brush strokes (brush strokes cause bleed through when stenciling) Continue to make dabbing motions with your yellow paint and stencil until stencil is completely filled in with yellow. :)

You jar should look similar to the picture below after you have dabbed yellow paint into the stencil.

Remove stencil and admire your work! You just made an adorable easy flower vase! Perfect for your home!

You can add a spray sealer to your jar if you'd like!
