We have made these ornaments for an event but YOU should make them for valentines….or even really any holiday because you can use any cookie cutter shape. These would be a great craft with the kids, easy Christmas ornaments, or even Wedding favor…you ready for this??
Ingredients:
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 cup baking soda
3/4 cup water
Directions:
Preheat oven to 220F and line cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a medium sized pot heat combine all ingredients and begin stirring over low heat on stove. Stir mixture until it is smooth and no longer feels like it is sticking to the bottom of the pan- use a spatula to make sure! The mixture will begin to thicken, just be patient!:) In fact it will thicken so much it looks like frosting or thick mashed potatoes in a lump. Remove pot from heat and then spoon the ball of dough into a bowl and cover with a damp cloth to avoid the dough from beginning to dry out. Allow to cool for 3 to 5 mins. Next start by kneading the dough thoroughly, this will prevent the dough from cracking! (trust me, I have learned the hard way). Once you are done kneading for a minute or two roll the dough out just as you would with cookie dough. Sprinkle some cornstarch if the dough is sticking. Now start to cookie cut out dough and use a spatula to slide cut outs onto cookie sheet (prep cookie sheets with parchment paper). If you want to add stamps, now is the time! Also don’t forget to use a straw or skewer to punch out whole for string. Bake them in the oven for 1 hour.
see the mashed potato texture?
Tips:
~if you want more ornaments, simply double!
~if you want to store dough, simply place in an airtight container and keep in fridge.
~paint them to make a cute mobile or even keychain or magnet!
Continue to follow the directions and roll out the dough.
After some metallic spray paint!
Then add some bling!
Ta da! Super cute and super easy Valentine's gift or decoration!
ALSO, another fun idea is to stamp into hearts…
Hope you enjoy this fun and easy project!! Thanks for zestin’ as always!
