I couldn't wait to try the melted album project after I seen a post on Hometalk. I hurried to my local RedRacks to buy a few albums and plant hanger. I was able to purchase a set of 10 albums for $1.48. The same price for a single album. It was a no brainer. Buy a set instead of a single one. I also purchased a plant hanger for .97¢ also from RedRacks like the one they used in their post. A total of $2.45 to try this project.
I took out one of the albums and put it in the plant hanger. I took out my brand new heat gun. And began to heat it on low at first. It was slowly melting and bending. I then put it on high. It really started to melt.
I took it out of the plant hanger with an oven mitt. It can get hot. I then put it on top of the plant hanger that I turned upside down. I put the heat gun on high and started the process again. I used an old butter knife to push the vinyl into the openings of the plant hanger. I put it back into the plant hanger and pushed the vinyl into the openings. I let it cool.
It was ready to put on our kitchen island for a catch all for my husbands stuff.
Next time I'm going to wear a mark and heat it up outside. The fumes bothered my husband and I. I'm glad I didn't heat it in the oven. I might try the boiling water method also. It made a cute fruit dish too.
Enjoyed the project?

We made flowers back in the 70s when our records got scratched or broken, or worse, left in a car. Also cute with a small mirror glued in the center.-
