Miniature Dollhouse Rug

I’ve been slowly furnishing a dollhouse that I built but I was struggling to find a rug that I liked for one of the rooms so I decided to DIY one using an old rug that I once had in my daughters room.
A few years ago I bought a faux fur rug from Kmart for around $20 AUD. It was only little (door mat size) and it’s been moved around from room to room, as I’ve never really found a spot for it. Eventually it just ended up in our storage room collecting dust so I decided to dig it out and use the fabric for a dollhouse rug.
Obviously you could easily buy some fabric from a craft store but I love to repurpose when I can first.
I started by sketching the shape & size of the miniature rug I was after on the back of it. I then cut the shape out and made sure all the edging was neat and tidy.
Next I peeled away at the bottom layer of the rug to make it thinner. As this rug was only a cheapy, it peeled off super easy.
Next, I used a scissors to give the rug a decent haircut. I cut the fur as short as I could without being able to see the fabric underneath.
I thought that when I cut the rug the fur along the edges might easily pull off but surprisingly they were fine.
Once I had cut all the fur super short I then finished it off by cutting along the edges on a slight angle to made them blend in.
It was as simple as that, best part is it cost me nothing as I had no use for the rug before. Plus I have HEAPS of it leftover so I might try attempt to make some fluffy cushions next.
