No Sew Denim Fruit Bowl

I say this is a denim fruit bowl because that is what I use it as. You can use it any way you want, but perhaps not as a cereal bowl!
I used scraps of denim from a couple of pairs of jeans in different shades of indigo to enhance the patchwork look.
I cut the denim into a pile of square patches. The size of your squares will depend on the size of the bowl you make.
Big squares for a big bowl, small squares for a small bowl. They don't have to be precise squares either.
Next, find a bowl that is the size you want your denim fruit bowl to be and cover it in cling film (plastic wrap).
Apply decoupage glue to your denim square.
Then stick it onto the bowl, pressing down as you go. Cover the whole bowl in denim patches.
Then add another layer of denim patches to the bowl. Let it dry overnight and then add another two more layers of denim at least. The more layers the sturdier your bowl. I find four layers were enough for my bowl as the glue stiffens it as well as the fabric.
When the final layer of denim has dried, remove the bowl mold and the cling film (plastic wrap).
Up pick a denim waistband from your jeans, open it up and paste it with glue.
Then place the waistband over the edge of the bowl to neaten it up. Use bulldog clips to hold it in place as the glue dries.
Paste the inside of the bowl with at least another two layers of decoupage or PVA glue. This will dry clear and protect the bowl so that it can be easily wiped clean. You might also want to use a food-safe spray varnish for your final layer.
More photos, tips, and details on the blog link in bio at the end.
I love my denim fruit bowl it looks great on my dining table along with the cool stenciled denim table runner I made too.
I also have a cool Anthropologie style paper mache bowl on my table I made too (see here).
I've also used the waistbands from old jeans before to make a no-sew rug which you can see here.
