Pine Cone Wreath
Living in the Midwest a good part of my life I had always seen these beautiful pine cone wreaths every year at Christmas. I had wanted one but all the instructions I had read made them seem like they were very difficult to make. So I procrastinated.
Two years ago I retired and moved to the East Coast where our back yard was a virtual pine cone "field". So I sent my two granddaughters out to "pick" some pine cones to make a wreath.
What I discovered was - this wreath was not as difficult as it had been made to seem. I simply used a 12" wire wreath form and began hot gluing the pine cones on it. You will want to read the entire post for some more tips.
After gluing and letting it set for a while. I decided to spray it with some white spray paint. I did not cover it completely but let some of the brown of the cones show through. While it was wet I sprinkled it with clear "icicle" glitter to make it glimmer in the light.
I then hot glued some red "faux" berries on it randomly. These berry bushes were bought at Dollar Tree and clipped apart to go further. I look at how this pops off my black door and wonder why I waited so long because it is definitely a statement piece.

Hey Pat, I brought some some big, and medium size cones from some giant tree in my neighbors yard...gotta pick 'em up before I cut my grass...asked my ex-girlfriend if she and her girlfriends if they wanted them...she was told by them and somewhere on the web, yes bake them to get the critters (i.e. spiders, bugs and such) that might be hiding in there. Low temp, on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil. Good luck and Happy Holidays !
