Sometimes breaking the furniture arrangements up into sections helps make the room feel cozier. You could try putting your sofa on one end with and area rug and chairs. And then on the other end, have another sitting area with smaller chairs and a side table for reading. Here are some different room layouts to consider: https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/long-narrow-living-room-deas-254700
You don't give the dimensions , but I would set up one side as a living room with sofa and chairs/ loveseat , then on the other side , set it up as a library of reading area with a couple of comfortable chairs reading lamp and some shelves. Or make one side a game area that has a folding or extendable table for family games or puzzles...Or an area with a nice stereo system and comfy chairs . You can hang a gallery of photos ( it is very inexpensive to make prints of photos on your phone ) could be of favorite places , family , nature pictures of a combo .
I like the 5 arrangements in the above link from a person, I have the same thing wondering how to incorporate a homemade long table that was put in this room, with a couch and a chair.
Pull your furniture away from the wall, the couch or love seat facing a focal point (window, tv, fireplace) and a couple of chairs, lamps, tables, rug to pull it together. You can have a of chair or 2 by a bookcase and lamp for reading. Maybe a home office. Add a console table in the wall and keep a clear path for walking.
Thank you all for great ideas..I likethe two separate spaces😀
throw pillows, blankets and lots of texture will help!
