How about covering them with fabric or contact paper and using them for portable crayon containers? Kids get those huge boxes of crayons these days but when traveling to grandmas, (or wherever) you could choose a few favorite colors and the kiddies can color on the road? I just thought of that on my own but then thought Google it. here's just one thing I found...

You'd be the best judge of size of the container, but if decorated, it could be used for anything you, or someone else would carry in a purse or keep in a desk drawer - tiny first aid kit, manicure kit, pocket-size tissue holder, makeup essentials. Good luck.
