Revamp an Old Floor Lamp Into Something Much More Colourful

Easy
Last week I transformed a dreary old floor lamp with spray paints into a colourful statement piece. This project was so easy and didn't require any specialist skills; as long as you can shake a can of spray paint you can revamp a lamp.
All you need is an old floor lamp, I bought mine really cheaply from a local auction house. The electrics are very easy to update, it's just like changing a plug and you can get all you need from a local DIY store.
To revamp the stand and the lampshade I just used acrylic spray paints in lots of colours.
Firstly I sprayed the stand with 2 coats of copper paint. I also removed the lampshade and sprayed the inside with 2 coats of copper paint.
I then covered the newly sprayed insides with paper to protect them. The lampshade was in 8 sections so I decided that I would spray it 8 different colours in a rainbow effect.
I sprayed each section one at a time making sure that the other bits of the lampshade was covered with newspaper and masking tape. I gave each section 2 coats.
To add a bit more fun detail to my lamp I painted a rainbow stripe on the stand, and made some pompoms in the colours of the rainbow for the trim. More details can be found on my blog.
