Reworking an Art Frame

2 Materials

Sometimes the perfect print in a nice frame just isn't the right frame, but the price is right at a garage sale or thrift store. A few simple steps can rework the frame to fit your decor.

This print was perfect, but the gold in the frame wasn't my style. I wanted to bring out the burgundy, and decided to do a bit of DIY. I began by putting the framed print on two sawhorses so I could easily work on it.

Using painter's tape, I masked off the nice cream color I wanted to keep.

Using acrylic paint, I brushed three light coats of paint over the gold color I wanted to change. Allow each coat to dry about one hour between coats, then overnight after the last coat. Remove the tape when the drying time is up.

Voila!! Now the frame picks up the burgundy background and goes much better with the decor in my home. To see more detailed instructions along with how I fixed a broken part of the trim, and a second art frame rework, see my blog post URL below.
