Rustic Fireplace Crate Decoration

We have yet to have our chimney inspected, so it's not safe to have a real fire in the fireplace. I still wanted the cozy glow of a fire this Christmas, so I created this hearth crate!
The weathered wood, greenery, and flickering LED candles add a warm rustic feel to our fireplace hearth.
I used a cheap wooden crate, LED candles, stain wipes, chalky finish paint, faux greenery and a butane torch to complete this project.
I used my butane torch to scorch the wood of the crate. The flame brings out the grain of the inexpensive wood, giving it much more character. Then I painted each end of the crate with chalky paint and wiped stain onto the distressed slats.
I tucked greenery into the crate and nestled some LED candles on top.
It's not quite the same as a roaring fire, but the flickering candles give off a cozy light that is perfect for a cold winter's night!
