Rustic Tiered Tray DIY
Do you ever buy something that catches your eye for a DIY, but have no idea what you are going to do with them. That was what happened when I found these tins at a vintage market. I had no idea exactly what I was going to do with them, but they had the perfect amount of rust (we call that patina around here) So after a couple months of staring at them, and a chunky candlestick that I found, I had a plan.
Here is what you need to complete the look:
- 2 metal rusty tins-this could be pie tins, tart tins, really anything you want it to be
- a chunky wood candleholder
- clock faces
- hot glue
- e6000
- wise owl furniture salve
First you will want to cut the clock faces to proper size to fit your trays you have chosen. You can get a variety of sizes HERE.
Next, grab the amazing Wise Owl furniture salve and a brush or cloth and apply on wood candlestick. This really brings out all of the natural elements of the wood and brings it back to life. It can be used on so much more than wood too. So, it’s a great item to have in your toolbox.
I hot glued the outer edges of the clock faces to the metal trays, however, they did not stay secured so I would recommend using e6000 for it to hold. Or, you can simply lay them in there and not glue them at all. That choice is all yours!
Add your e6000 and hot glue to the candlestick for the bottom tier first. Just seems easier to move around and get centered without the top on first. Once it is secure, add the e6000 and hot glue to the top and I completely eye-balled placement. You can be more technical if you’d like. I just wing it. HA!

If you have color laser copies made of your clock faces (or any other decorative items) then you can use THOSE pieces and preserve the originals. Protect them with either spray coatingnor ModPodge.
