After finishing my earlier posted project (my painted cabinets in the basement), the counter tops desperately needed some decor, but I wanted to spend no money, because, well, my budget was zero dollars!! Time to get creative.
Here is what I made. Stacked movie themed decorative blocks. I see things like this in places like Kirklands and Hobby Lobby all the time, and figured I could make some myself. I used empty cereal boxes, empty popcorn boxes and empty amazon boxes!
I took the boxes out to the garage, taped them shut, and painted them all black.
Then I measured all of my boxes (width and height) and wrote these dimensions down. I went online and found movie images I liked. I pasted them into a word document and used the side rulers on Microsoft Word to approximate what size they needed to be. Then I printed them out.
I stacked my boxes to see which way they would work best.
Then I cut out my images. I brushed mod podge all over the side of the box the image was going onto and glued my image on.
Then I brushed mod podge over the entire image on the box. Once it dries, it gives the illusion that the paper image is 'part of' the box and was actually printed on it instead of being paper that was glued on.
Here they are waiting for glue to dry.
And here they are all stacked in the corner of the counter!
