My friend knocked on the door one day and she had purchased these 6" by 8" galvanized letters to paint as her granddaughters wanted their names on the wall. She wanted to know what kind of paint to use. She also wanted to paint dots on them because they had sheets that matched the colors they wanted the letters to be. I of course had the paint colors they wanted all ready and instead of painting dots on, i suggested using stickers to block the colors we wanted.
above is a Galvanized metal letter before paint. These letters already have the hangers on the back.
One of the girls wanted Brown and Pink and the other Pink and Teal. After talking and my friend said one girl had polka dot sheets and the other had striped , all in these 4 colors, we decided to do a couple of striped letter in each name as well.
We used these stickers and paper tape to block out where we wanted the first color coat to stay when we painted the second coat.
we painted every other letter in each name with one of the opposing colors and chose two letters per name to stripe.
Here you can see the first coat applied on both names with the dot stickers and tape applied to block the second color when applied.
a better view of the blocking process.
Here is one of the finished names. For more info see the full blog post at http://www.shepherdsandchardonnay.com/metal-painted-childs-name/
