How to Repurpose a Shutter

See step by step instructions to create a sconce out of a vintage shutter.
You can get a j-box at your local hardware store in the electrical section. Using a J box, measure where you will put your light fixture onto the shutter. Using a drill, drill holes where your markings are.
Using a wire strippers, cut the outer wire covering of the lamp cord and strip it off. Be careful not to cut through the wire-just the plastic coating on the wire.
Place the j box on the back of the shutter. Puch the electrical cord through the j box and the shutter-connect wires from electrical cord to the wires from the light fixture. Secure with wire covers.
The back of the shutter will look like this.
Add d-rings to the back of the shutter with screws, then attach picture hanging cable to to the d rings to hang the shutter.
It makes a wonderful sconce, and oh so much character. Isn't it great?
Watch video for complete instructions. This shutter sconce adds so much character and lights up a room beautifully -all in one.
