How do you replace dry wall?

How do you replace dry wall? There are two large pieces of dry wall that have been cut out of a bedroom ceiling due to a leak repair and I'm wondering if replacing the missing dry wall is easy enough to DIY?

You cut a new piece to the size of the hole. You will have to make sure you can screw them into studs. If you can't see any studs on the current holes, you need to cut the openings back so that you can hit studs on all 4 sides.
Once you have the replacement pieces screwed into the studs, tape and seal with joint compound.
Using a damp sponge, smooth out the joint compound.
Repeat application of joint compound and smoothing with damp sponge twice until you it's blended into the existing ceiling.
Prime and paint.
This is definitely doable — be sure to weigh your skill level and strength as ceiling work is tough. Kathy’s directions are great.
