How to make paneling look better?




Our house is a 1970's tri-level. The family room is wood paneling and I HATE it. What could I do to make it look better??? HELP

You can paint paneling and it works pretty good. Another option is to texture it first then paint it.
My parents painted 1973 panelling white, leaving molding natural wood. Paint it, take it down, or cover it up
Bonnie - You could paint the paneling or wallpaper it. A good paint and wallpaper store carries the proper base paper that actually covers the grooves in the paneling. If you prefer to paint, fill the grooves with wood filler be sure to sand. Prime allthe paneling then paint. How this helps. Jean
You can paint it by putting a good primer on it first such as Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 and then your finish coat. The primer can be tinted to the same color as your final coat. If you do not like the seams then fill them with a wood filler, sand smooth and wipe down the wall for any dust or stains and do this before priming. I have seen this done and it looks good after painting.
