Score with paper tiger carefully as not to damage wall behind the paper.

Mix warm water & either white vinegar or fabric softener in a spray bottle (50/50). I prefer fabric softener because of the scent.

Saturate so that mixture goes into the scoring holes.

Let sit. The solution will "melt" the adhesive.

    Scrape with a plastic scraper.

Once all is removed, wash with warm soapy water made with Blue Dawn.

You might try to grab the edges of the vinyl and peel the top layer off as much as possible. I do that when I can. It makes the job much easier going forward with removal.

  • You can heat it up slightly with a heat gun or hairdryer to softner the glue so it can be pulled down easier.

Keep in mind that depending on what was used to adhere the backing onto the drywall (cross your fingers that it was proper wallpaper paste, and not more permanent glue), and inspite of your best efforts to protect the wall underneath, it may sustain some damage in the removal process.
