Paint ! We painted ours with out sanding or scuffing it. Ours wasn't dark , just UGLY 70's cream with green wood tones . We painted ours a pale gray, as a bonus , we painted the trim around it , and because it was a different texture it looked like we trimmed it in a slightly darker version of the same color !!! Worked great !!!! Only warning...if there was someone who smoked in that room i would buy a product called krud kutter, available at home depot for about $6 , to clean off any nicotine. Just spray on & wipe off with paper towels. Nicotine will definitely mess up a paint job. Also might want to use a primer, if the wood is really dark, that way you will only need one coat of paint , otherwise you might need between 2-4 coats ??? Good luck !!!Helpful Reply -
